Volunteer with Us

We are always welcoming new Meals on Wheels volunteers to get involved in a range of roles at their local branch. This includes helping out in the kitchen, delivering meals and getting involved in our My W.I.S.E Choice Program.

If you’d like to become a part of our incredible volunteering community, register your interest today using the below form!

My W.I.S.E Choice Volunteers

We are urgently looking for volunteers for our Social Connection Program, My W.I.S.E Choice.

Do you like attending lunch at the pub, or visiting your local café for a cuppa? If so, this is for YOU!

For as little as one hour a month, you could enjoy the company of other volunteers and customers at one of our rewarding social connection activities, including Pub Lunches, Café Clubs, Branch Lunches, Cooking catch-ups or visits to the customer’s home.

Across Group or Individual Support activities you will be expected to:

– Facilitate social interaction between customers and volunteers

– Assist in the set-up and pack-down of activities

– Food ordering and shopping

– Admin support, including email management, phone calls and booking customer transport

For more information about My W.I.S.E Choice and the volunteer opportunities available beyond daily meal delivery, click here.

“We know there’s a volunteer in each and every one of us”.

Corporate Volunteering

A win:win:win. Good for us, good for your employees, and good for your business.

For your business, corporate volunteering can lead to increased brand recognition and an enhanced brand reputation, among other benefits. For your employees, corporate volunteering is a form of professional development. They will learn new skills and gain knowledge. It can also lead to better satisfaction, engagement and teamwork with their peers. Of course, the extra volunteers are great for us too!

Student Volunteers

What is student volunteering?

Meals on Wheels offers a limited number of formal student volunteer placements as an opportunity for high school and tertiary students to experience work in one of our kitchen branches. Students who undertake a placement have the opportunity to not only help with the everyday workings of one of our kitchens but to also learn new skills in food preparation and the delivery of meals.

How does it benefit students?

Students can expect to experience a sense of achievement in helping out in their community. A placement in a Meals on Wheels kitchen will help students to gain skills and knowledge in the area of food preparation, food safety, teamwork and more.

How does it benefit MoWSA?

Student volunteer placements are an important way for Meals on Wheels SA to gain awareness amongst younger members of the community. It’s a way we continue to grow by acquiring new volunteers and clients.

How does it work?

Students and parents are encouraged to speak to their school. A student volunteer placement can only be arranged through a School Coordinator at a school that we have a working relationship with.

Work hours of students are the same as our regular volunteers: 7:30am—1:00pm, or 9:00am – 1:00pm. However, these hours may vary depending on individual kitchens and branches.

Where to from here?

School Coordinators may contact our MoWSA Volunteer Administration Officer:
T: 8271 8700
E: volunteer@mealsonwheelssa.org.au
M: PO Box 406, Unley, 5061.

A reminder that MoWSA does not have the resources to handle enquiries directly from students and/or parents. If you have a query, please contact your School’s Coordinator.
