A shocking 40% of elderly Australians are malnourished or at risk of being so. Meals on Wheels Australia has made a plea to the government for funding, which will allow older Australians to only pay for the cost of ingredients. This would make payments fairer and more affordable, ultimately allowing for customers to remain in their homes and independent for longer.

“Meals on Wheels Australia is calling on the Australian Government to double its investment in meal support through the Commonwealth Home Support Program to make it simpler, fairer and more affordable for older Australians to receive meal services,” President of Meals on Wheels Australia, Sharyn Broer said.

There is no reason for malnutrition numbers to be this high. Malnutrition is preventable and treatable.
