The first nutritious meals have been prepared out of the new Meals on Wheels SA commercial kitchen at Hilton.
Located on Sir Donald Bradman Drive, the $22 million purpose built Cook Chill facility and corporate headquarters is the biggest investment in organisation history.
Meals on Wheels SA CEO, Sharyn Broer says the new kitchen provides an invaluable opportunity to support even more South Australians facing food insecurity, a growing issue amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This facility is the basis for us to be able to have more variety, better quality, greater food safety and an expanded community of people that we can serve.”
“It gives us the opportunity to meet growing demand for people in the community who are experiencing poor nutrition and social isolation,” she says.
More than 2,000 chilled and frozen meals will be cooked every day in the state of the art kitchen.
“Our production capabilities have significantly increased which will allow us to support even more South Australians facing food insecurity and foster nourished and connected communities,” Sharyn says.
